Course Update – 6/6/25
On May 6, we completed our second PoaCure application of the season, just prior to opening the course. Unfortunately, this coincided with a stretch of cold overnight temperatures, dipping into the low 20s. As a result, the bentgrass on our greens experienced noticeable stress, with browning and stunted growth developing shortly after the treatment.
Over the past two weeks, we’ve seen encouraging signs of recovery. The herbicide’s effects are tapering off, and the greens are steadily regaining color and vigor. Despite the short-term visual setback, we’ve achieved a significant level of Poa annua control and are very pleased with the overall results. The most difficult phase is now behind us, and we can focus on actively growing healthy turf through the summer.
Looking ahead, we plan to complete two additional PoaCure applications in September. These fall treatments are expected to be much less impactful, as the turf will be actively growing and soil temperatures will remain elevated, supporting quicker recovery.
We’ve begun cultivating soil and seeding into smaller damaged areas, while sod installation is complete in the larger sections and is starting to tack down well. Fairways #1 and #3, which had the highest levels of Poa annua, also show the most bare areas. We are applying aggressive fertility to these fairways, and the Kentucky bluegrass is gradually filling in.
