Course Update – July 10, 2026

As we move through the middle of the summer season, the overall health of the golf course remains strong. The recent combination of favorable growing conditions and consistent maintenance practices has kept the greens healthy, while our long-term turf improvement programs continue to make meaningful progress.

One of our primary focuses this season has been the Poa annua reduction program. We are very pleased with the effectiveness of this year’s Poa Cure applications, as they have significantly reduced Poa annua populations throughout the golf course. As with any aggressive conversion program, however, some short-term challenges accompany these long-term improvements.

The most noticeable areas remain Fairways 1 through 5, where bare and thinning turf has developed following the removal of Poa annua. These areas reflect the success of the herbicide program rather than a turf health issue. Poa annua produces an extensive seed bank in the soil; Poa Cure has done an excellent job preventing those seeds from germinating, and it also temporarily prevents Kentucky bluegrass seed from establishing. As a result, traditional overseeding is not currently an effective option.

To accelerate recovery in the most affected areas, we will be installing sod in select locations over the coming weeks. This approach will allow us to restore playing conditions more quickly while continuing to move toward a healthier, more uniform stand of Kentucky bluegrass. Although the recovery process requires patience, we remain confident that these short-term disruptions will result in significantly improved fairway quality for years to come.

Bunker performance has also been a major area of focus this season. Over the past several weeks, our team has removed sand from the bunker faces to reduce the frequency of buried lies and create more consistent playing conditions. In addition, we recently had our bunker sand professionally tested, and the results confirmed that the particle size distribution is exactly where we want it. This gives us confidence that the sand itself is performing as intended, allowing us to focus our efforts on improving sand distribution. We will continue making gradual adjustments to sand depths on bunker faces throughout the season to enhance consistency and playability.

Our greens remain healthy, dense, and are rolling smoothly thanks to careful moisture management and ongoing cultural practices. We expect them to continue providing excellent playing conditions throughout the summer.
